Lucerne: Switzerland’s Heartbeat
Nestled between the sparkling waters of Lake Lucerne and the towering Swiss Alps, Lucerne (or Luzern) is one of Switzerland’s most enchanting destinations. The city perfectly blends medieval charm, natural beauty, and cultural experiences in a breathtaking setting.
Strolling Through the Old Town
Lucerne’s historic center is like an open-air museum. Cobblestone streets, colorful façades, and ancient bridges invite leisurely exploration. The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke), with its centuries-old paintings under a wooden roof, is a must-see. Just a short walk away, the Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal) commemorates the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution — a poignant piece of history carved in stone.

Gateway to the Mountains
Lucerne is also the perfect base for exploring the Alps. In minutes, you can reach Mount Rigi, Mount Pilatus, or Mount Stanserhorn for panoramic views of lakes, valleys, and snow-capped peaks. Whether hiking, skiing, or simply soaking in the scenery, every season offers unforgettable alpine adventures.
Art That Plays with Perception
The city isn’t just about history and nature — it also celebrates contemporary art.
Disappearing Sculptures by Julian Voss-Andreae

German sculptor Julian Voss-Andreae is celebrated for his large-scale figurative sculptures that seem to disappear or transform depending on the viewer’s angle.
Drawing inspiration from his background in quantum physics, Voss-Andreae uses thin, parallel steel sheets to create human forms that appear solid from one perspective and almost invisible from another.

His work explores the intersection of science, perception, and art, evoking the idea that reality itself depends on the observer’s point of view—much like in quantum mechanics. These optical illusions invite viewers to reflect on the nature of existence, transformation, and the boundaries between matter and emptiness.

Why Visit Lucerne
Lucerne is a city where history, nature, and creativity converge. Wander medieval streets, ascend breathtaking mountains, or marvel at sculptures that seem to disappear — no matter how you explore it, Lucerne leaves a lasting impression.
